In norway geophysics and geolgy are looked upon as great mayors, considering that 3/4 of all graduates end up in the oil & gas sector and make good money and have great careers (the remaining 1/4 choose not to be in the petroleum sector - there simply aren't enough geologist ... I've never thought about it before, I've simply assumed geology and geophysics mayors have outstanding job prospects in the U.S due to the fact that you have a large petroleum industry.
